Marco Lanzetta Bertani is an apolide surgeon, writer, sportsman and photographer. Born in the north of Italy in 1962, by the age of 5 he had realized he was a citizen of the earth. Since then, he travelled extensively around the planet. He lived in Africa, Australia, France, Canada and Switzerland. His medical humanitarian work with the NGO GICAM takes him regularly to India.

As a surgeon, he became internationally renowned in 1998 when he performed the first hand transplantation in the history of medicine, followed in 2000 by the first bilateral hand transplantation, fulfilling the myth of St Cosmas and Damian. He has been invited to more than 25 countries to share his professional knowledge in the field of hand surgery and reconstructive microsurgery.

He authored 9 books, including the autobiograhic "Una mano più in la" on the extraordinary scientific adventure of performing the first ever hand transplantation,  and the best seller "La dieta anti-artrosi" on his new way of treating arthritis through food and phyto-chemicals

A keen sportsman, in 2017 he won the European X-Terra Triathlon Championship, and ranked 17th at the World Championship in Hawaii. He runs, bikes, swims, kayaks, hikes in mountains, forests and woods.

He has always had a passion for photography, as a mean to contemplate creation, self-surrender and connect into the absolute.

At the age of 55, he felt an irresistible urge to embrace silence and solitude in a quest to restore his soul by breaking engagements with the world. He is an advocate for veganism, and has not killed any animal for any reason for many years.

È autore di 9 libri, tra cui l'autobiografico "Una mano più in la" sulla straordinaria avventura scientifica del primo trapianto di mano in assoluto e il best seller "La dieta anti-artrosi" sul suo nuovo modo di curare l'artrite attraverso il cibo e la fitoterapia.
Appassionato sportivo, nel 2017 ha vinto il Campionato Europeo X-Terra Triathlon, e si è classificato 17° al Campionato Mondiale alle Hawaii.  Corre, pedala, nuota, va in kayak, fa escursioni in montagna, nei boschi e nelle foreste.
Ha sempre avuto una passione per la fotografia, come mezzo per contemplare la creazione, arrendersi alla natura e connettersi all'assoluto.
All'età di 55 anni, ha sentito un irresistibile bisogno di abbracciare il silenzio e la solitudine nel tentativo di ascoltare la sua anima rompendo gli impegni con il mondo.  È un sostenitore del veganismo e non uccide nessun animale per nessun motivo da molti anni.
